Back to school

Started my six months of hell. Actually sitting in the classroom during a break as I write.

Doing an intensive course on preparation for CCNA and Linux certification. It's full time at night and weekends, Monday, Wednseday and Thursday from 6 to 10 and Saturdays from 9 to 6. Will have to curtail my music and Air Force activities during this time in addition to not working too many extra hours at work.

Starting off with linux, wil have to dust off the cobwebs to remember all that was taught 4 years ago. Use it at work and play around with it at home but still know so little. The weeks will alternate between linux and Cisco networking concepts followed by Network Components through to middle November. After that the course will do two more modules of Network Components and one module of Advanced Linux. This will carry me through to end of February providing I last that long ;-).

Will try to come up for air occasionally. I want to try to find a way of using all of my various resources to organize myself and notes, etc. Should be able to find something. Trying Yahoo email with online notes for right now. Will use my Hotmail account for class contact as I can retrieve the messages from most places.

Well, back to the lecture......

I'd rather be sailing

Tough day at the office today. What started out as just planning to do a small picnic at the office ended up being a sailing afternoon while celebrating the birthday of one of my co-workers, Nicolas.

Ahoy, Sailor!

Needless to say, no one made it back to the office. In fact Nicolas was supposed to have a meeting with two guys from the city of Montreal. One arrived at the picnic with Mr Nydam and then he went and got the other guy back at the office. They had their meeting under a tree at a picnic bench while we ate, drank and sailed.

Bert brought his camper and made corn on the cob. Everyone else brought stuff and we lazed the afternoon away. Mr Nydam's daughter Gabrielle rigged up their boat and took a couple of us out. After that I sailed the boat for a couple of more trips.

There may be worse ways to spend an afternoon at work.....

New Toy!

Well, I took the plunge today and bought a laptop! A Compaq Presario 3240 with all kinds of bells and whistles. Won't go into details now.

Just one minor problem, it comes with Windows XP Home, I want XP Pro. I don't know if I want to do a partition and try a second OS install or just take the plunge and install directly XP Pro. Food for thought.

Meanwhile, back to my new toy.....
